Floor plan and curtailment

Know what you owe on every car on the lot.

Floor plan interest is the quietest way a dealership loses money: a unit ages, a curtailment comes due, and nobody sees it until the statement arrives. DealersCloud keeps the payable on the vehicle - lender, floor date, amount due - and posts every payoff to the same books as the sale.

Why this matters

A spreadsheet cannot tell you which car is costing you money today.

Most independent stores track floor plan in a spreadsheet that is accurate on the day it was built. Then a unit sells and the payoff is late, or a curtailment comes due on a car that has been sitting for ninety days, or two floor plan lines get mixed together and nobody is sure which lender is owed what.

None of that is a discipline problem. It is a record-keeping problem: the money is tracked in one place and the cars are tracked in another. Putting the payable on the vehicle removes the gap.

What floor plan management looks like here.

Every floored unit, with its lender and its clock

A floor plan payable is attached to the vehicle, not to a spreadsheet row. It carries which provider financed it, the date it was floored, what is owed, and the car itself - year, make, model, VIN and mileage - so the unit and the note are never separate records.

  • Provider recorded per unit, across multiple floor plan companies
  • Floor date and amount due on the vehicle record
  • Sale date visible, so sold-but-not-paid-off units stand out

Curtailments tracked as their own payable

Curtailment payments are not a note in the margin of the floor plan. They are their own list with their own history, so a curtailment coming due is something you can see and work rather than something you remember.

  • Curtailment list per stock number
  • Curtailments paid singly or several at once
  • Full payment history kept per curtailment

Pay one unit, or clear several in a single transaction

When you send a lender one cheque covering six cars, the system records it that way. Select the units, pay them together, and the payoff is one transaction with every vehicle attached to it - and it can be reversed if it was entered wrong.

  • Single and multi-vehicle payoffs, with the units attached to the transaction
  • Payoff reversal when an entry needs correcting
  • Bank, card and payment type recorded on the payoff

What you owe the floor plan, at a glance

Total amount due and total balance due are computed across the whole floored portfolio, filtered the way you actually work - by provider, by where the unit sold, or by location.

  • Portfolio totals across every floored unit
  • Filter by provider, sale location and date range
  • Optional location restriction for multi-rooftop groups

It posts to the same books as everything else

A floor plan payoff is a transaction in the same accounting the rest of the dealership runs on. The cost of holding a car and the gross on selling it end up in the same system, which is the only way the numbers reconcile without a spreadsheet in the middle.

  • Payoffs post to the dealership ledger, not a side system
  • History per stock number, so a unit tells its own story
  • Same platform as inventory, desking, accounting and reporting

The rest of the store

Holding cost and gross in the same system.

Floor plan is one module of one platform. Inventory, the CRM, desking and F&I, accounting and reporting, your dealer website and DealersAI all run on the same record - so the cost of holding a car and the profit on selling it are two figures in one system rather than two systems to reconcile.

Questions

What dealers ask about floor plan.

Does DealersCloud track floor plan financing?
Yes. Each floored unit carries the provider that financed it, the date it was floored and the amount due, attached to the vehicle record alongside its year, make, model, VIN and mileage.
Can it handle more than one floor plan company?
Yes. Providers are recorded per unit, and the payable list can be filtered by provider, so a store running two or three floor plan lines sees each one separately as well as the total.
What about curtailments?
Curtailments are their own payable with their own list and payment history, per stock number. You can pay one or select several and pay them together.
We pay off several cars with one cheque. Does that work?
Yes. Select the units and pay them in one transaction, with every vehicle attached to it. If it was entered wrong, the payoff can be reversed rather than worked around.
Do floor plan payoffs reach my accounting?
Yes. A payoff is a transaction in the same ledger the rest of the dealership uses, so holding cost and front-end gross live in one system instead of being reconciled between two.
