Pack
An internal amount a dealership adds to the cost of every vehicle before commissionable gross is calculated.
Definition
A pack is an internal charge - a fixed figure, or a percentage - added to the cost of each unit to cover overheads such as reconditioning averages or advertising. It reduces the gross that commission is paid on.
It is an internal accounting decision rather than a customer-facing one, and stores treat it very differently. Some pack heavily, some not at all, which makes cross-store gross comparisons unreliable unless you know the pack.
For a salesperson, the pack is the difference between the gross on the deal and the gross they are paid on, which is why it is worth being explicit about in a pay plan.
