NMVTIS
A national database of vehicle title, brand and salvage history, run under the US Department of Justice.
Definition
Also called National Motor Vehicle Title Information System
NMVTIS collects title and brand information from state motor vehicle agencies, insurers and salvage operators into one national record, so a vehicle branded salvage in one state cannot quietly become clean in another.
For a dealership it is a diligence check at acquisition. Buying a unit with a title brand nobody spotted is an expensive mistake that is difficult to unwind.
It is distinct from a commercial history report, which draws on a wider set of sources including service records and accident reports. Dealers commonly use both.

DealersCloud runs inventory, the CRM, desking, the books and your dealer website on the same records - so the things in this glossary stop living in separate places.
