Title status
Where a vehicle title is in the process of being obtained, held or transferred, tracked per unit.
Definition
A dealership cannot deliver a car properly without a clear path to the title, and titles move slowly - from an auction, a previous lienholder, or a customer payoff.
Tracking title status per unit is what stops a car being sold before the title is in hand, and what surfaces the ones stuck long enough to become a problem.
It matters commercially as well as legally: a unit whose title is outstanding is capital the store cannot recycle, however sold it looks on the board.
