Deal jacket

The complete set of documents for a single vehicle sale, historically a paper folder and now usually digital.

Definition

The deal jacket is everything belonging to one sale: the buyers order, the credit application, the finance contract, the title paperwork, disclosures and anything signed along the way.

It exists because a deal has to be reconstructable later - for the lender funding it, for an audit, or for a dispute. A missing document in a funded deal is a real problem.

Digital deal jackets solve the retrieval problem and the storage problem at once, and they make it possible to check a deal is complete before it is sent for funding rather than after it comes back.
